Mathew Perry’s Addiction

Matthew Perry has had to face some tough struggles with drug and alcohol addiction throughout his life. It all started when he became addicted to Vicodin after a jet-ski accident in 1997. To deal with this, he committed to a 28-day rehabilitation program in the same year. The struggle remained. In February 2001, he had to go back to rehab due to more complex problems including Vicodin, methadone, amphetamines and alcohol.

He is quite candid about the financial impact this has had on him. The search for peace wasted many money. What’s even more heartbreaking is that his addiction has erased three years of his memory from seasons three through six of the hit TV show “Friends.”

But, there is light at the end of the tunnel. He was also awarded the Champion of Recovery Award by the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy in May 2013. This recognition was for his work in opening the Perry House sober living facility, which was located in his former Malibu mansion.

However, he eventually sold the house and closed the rehabilitation center in 2015. The good news is that, as of May 2021, Matthew Perry was successful in overcoming the addiction which is a remarkable achievement in his ongoing journey.
